I’ll be honest, the temptation to start playing this highly addictive game is appealing. I used to play quite a bit, basically because I have always been intrigued by the lore that Blizzard has created around all of its franchises. Another thing is that they have always succeeded in balancing the ease of play with actual challenge. Regardless, today, the big B dropped a bombshell on our heads with the release of one of their highly produced, beautiful short films that make many of us beg for a full CGI film, and not a live action attempt. Anyhow…
If your jaw isn’t dropping it may be because you don’t understand exactly what is going on here. See, the big ugly things that are talking are called orcs and these particular orcs are gathering around 35 years prior to the events of World of Warcraft, particularly, the time frame of when Warcraft III took place. This is the first time that Blizzard has directly addressed events in the RTS game to the point of where they may completely alter bits of lore.
I will be honest with you, if you are not familiar with this realm of fiction, it would probably be okay to click another page to read, but if you are interested, let’s recall where last we saw Garrosh Hellscream, who escaped from imprisonment and traveled back in time with the help of Kairozdormu, a bronze dragon who likes to strut around as a high elf. The point in time they travel is the setting of this video.
We have Grom Hellscream approaching the green liquid which was the blood of Mannoroth, who, to save time, is a pit lord who is trying to control the horde. Gul’dan tries to trick Grom, and instead of drinking the blood, he wants to be free. With the help of Garrosh, and the technology he brought (Weird spinning bomb thing), Mannoroth was ultimately killed. This scene is a bit different in Warcraft 3, because Grom doesn’t make it. Thrall survives and he turns the orcs into hippies. I’m not really sure about the accuracy of this description, because it really does weave quite the web.
A little added bonus video that explains where one of the older factions rose from – The Shattered Hand. This video is absolutely exciting and I can’t wait until the newer episodes.
Anyhow, I will post any new videos I run into! I may play at the new expansion, but if not, I can still read about the story. Finally, we get a very orc-centric expansion.
FOR THE HORDE!
